Spring Primary Bedroom Refresh & How To Layer Bedding
There is nothing more inviting than crisp, clean bedding, fresh blooms and a spring breeze wafting in through an open window. After giving our primary bedroom a mini refresh for Spring this morning, I felt the urge to snap a few photos to document it in its pristine state. Mostly because it won’t stay this way for long once my toddler wakes up from his nap and feels compelled to race through this space, leaving a trail of crumbs and monster trucks in his wake. ;)
While warm weather teases us every afternoon as we ear the middle of March, the late evenings and early mornings do still remain quite chilly. Even though I’m eager to give our bed a total Spring overhaul, I know I need to bridge the gap between Winter and Spring for a few more weeks. So, I’ve layered some lace-trimmed white cotton sheets (we got two sets of these for our wedding and they are THE best), under a heavier woven coverlet (a truly great thrift store find), but left off a flat sheet for a simpler look (plus, I hate the way a flat sheet gets twisted in my legs when I’m sleeping). Then I left our duvet in its flannel winter cover for now, but folded it over twice just at the foot of the bed. It’s there if we need it, but doesn’t weigh the whole expanse of bed down with the pattern. I especially love seeing more of our textured coverlet at this time of year. Then I just threw on three simple blue and white striped pillows to dress the top of the bed and that’s that!. I have a deep love for accent pillows, but we’re in a season of life where our 3-year old delights in tossing them onto the floor over and over again, so for now I’m sticking with the cheap IKEA throw pillows. In a few years I do dream of upgrading to oversized (euro-sized) lace-trimmed pillows - the time will come!
Last week I stopped in at Micheal’s to use up a gift card balance, and walked out with these cute faux stems. I love how simple the closed buds are, and it will be fun to add in more fullness as the weather gets warmer. For now, I like how it looks a little sparse and like the buds are just on the cusp of opening up.
Then all I did was switch out a tray on my side table with a woven basket for a more casual spring feel, and added a blue ceramic dish to my husband’s side where he’ll likely stash his earpods and ring in the evenings.
The art above the bed was painted by yours truly, and will be available in my shop this April. Be sure to sign up for my newsletter to be the first to know when it launches! Your can also shop my peony prints here if you’d like to get a jump on your summer wall decor. ;)
As always, thank you so much for visiting the blog. It means the world to me. Xx Julia
